Like that first bit of dusk
Today I am thankful for things like that first bit of dusk that falls slowly over everything, when you're still outside playing and running and soaking it in, and for a minute you forget you're a 30-something mama, and instead feel like you're 8 years old again, beating the clock as you steal a few more moments before dusk turns to dark and it's time to go in. Or the way the house creaks in the middle of the night when you're laying there so quietly, the only sound the breath of your sleeping son and husband laying next to you, and you can't help but think about how lucky you are to have a home that creaks, to have a place to call home. Or even that first breath of spring, where the leaves are turning green again, and the sky is getting bluer again, and everything feels new again, and your heart swells at the beauty in that one realization that you get an 'again,' again. The luckiest. The smell of grass, the taste of salted caramel, the sound of belly laughter coming from your baby boy. Happy, lucky, thankful. Thinking of all of this today.
