The next morning we got up and headed downtown to meet a new friend of mine, Lauren, to snap some fun photos in a super amazing, old building on the square. It's one of those places that's up and above a shop and looks unassuming- not too big, maybe a few rooms...but once we were inside we realized just how gigantic the place was! A huge, beautiful staircase, then room after room (after room!) of amazing original fixtures and flooring, you name it. They have a lot of restoration work to do but if you squint your eyes just so, you can almost see how it used to look. I feel lucky we got to take photos up there, and can't wait to share some of the finished product in a few weeks. And surprisingly Henry was really great for the entire two hours, minus one little melt down after we couldn't find his "big blue truck." Daddy to the rescue though!
After our photo session we headed down to Phoenix and Hank had the briliant idea to stop at Rock Springs Cafe to split a piece of pie. We drive down to my parents' house so much, and why we have never thought to do this, I don't know. But Rock Springs is world famous historic landmark (est. 1918!) and known for their pies. Henry was asleep in his carseat, so we split a to-go piece of their Tennessee Lemon and just about died right there in our car from how good it was. I love pie, and this might just be one of the best slices I've ever had, outside of my Mom and Grandma's. We can't wait to go back.
The rest of the day was spent soaking up the insanely gorgeous Phoenix afternoon, then Hank and I went on a date night thanks to my parents. It was a quick one (and early!) so we could be back to put Henry to bed, but we got to enjoy a Thai meal and some dessert. We haven't had a date in a long time and it was just so much fun to spend a few hours just Hank and me.
Then Sunday...Superbowl day! We started the morning with the best of intentions, thinking that it would be another beautiful day. Nope. It was freezing cold and slightly windy, but since we had already planned a breakfast picnic with Henry we wanted to follow through. Plus, Henry's at that stage where he remembers everything, and upon waking up he said "Picnic day! YAY!" so we knew it was going to happen, gloom or shine. We ran over to the local bagel shop to grab breakfast, got a blanket and some drinks, put on our warm clothing, and headed across the street to the park. It was SO COLD and one of those moments where Hank and I just looked at each other and laughed at our own stupidity, but Henry was so into it, and didn't mind that it even started lightly raining. We hurried up and ate, got in a little park time, then high tailed it back to my parents' house to warm up!
Later on we watched the Super Bowl and I ate way too much food. It was a great game though, right? Beyonce was amazing and my pick won.
All in all, it was a great weekend. Some favorite things: Henry and his donut on Friday- he was so into it and after he finished asked for 10 more (I don't think so, Henny), listening to the new Broadway Calls, sitting outside in the sunshine on Saturday drinking a smoothie- it almost felt like spring, a little bit of "me" time at the gym on Sunday morning, my Mom's amazing food during the Super Bowl, and Henry falling asleep in the car and staying that way once we got inside, nestling right into my shoulder like he did as a baby.
I hope you had a great weekend too! xoxo
